Defacing Abe

heard this morning that sometime over the weekend, an idiot carrying Mt. Dew bottles full of green paint defaced the beautiful Lincoln Monument in Washington DC.

i want it made very clear that the actions of this Mt. Dew drinker definitely should not reflect negatively on the legions of good, peace-loving Mt. Dew drinkers/Americans (myself included) spread across this great land.  we are a fun brood who are big fans of Abe.

this type of action has no excuse at all.  whether this was done as a prank, as a statement, on a dare, or out of boredom, it is infuriating to me that one of the iconic landmarks in Washington is now closed to the public.  who knows for how long?  and who knows how expensive it will be to clean all this paint up?

a totally selfish act.  no excuses.

we see the same type of thing here in Decatur quite regularly.  grafitti on and damages to park buildings and equipment is, unfortunately, common.  some small.  some big.  all of it selfish.  all of it criminal.

i see it as stealing.

taking away a piece of equipment from neighborhood children.

taking away use of a park shelter or public restroom from a family reunion.

keeping someone nice from somewhere good as a result of being something similar to the rear end of a donkey.

now, out in Washington, you've got school kids and families on vacation who have been denied the opportunity to visit the memorial to our best president ever.

sucks.

out for now.....
