I Scream, You Scream
Today, the last day of July, also marks the last day of National Ice Cream month.
oh, what a sweet sweet month. one that i so enjoy celebrating.
this was released earlier today....
"Results from a survey of International Ice Cream Association member companies has determined that vanilla remains America's favorite flavor for the second year in a row. Chocolate and butter pecan took second and third while coffee, Neapolitan and Rocky Road tied for fourth place. The companies surveyed make and distribute an estimated 85% of the ice cream and frozen dessert products consumed in the United States."
a few Mattchat comments....
people!! you are missing out on SO much!!
i understand there are a ton of people who love vanilla ice cream. and, i do to. but, it's not my favorite. i will eat it if no other option is available, but compared to the multitude of amazing flavors out there, vanilla is so plain-jane (sorry Jane), hum-drum, boring.
i agree with pretty much the remainder of the survey results. i love butter pecan!!
and of course, chocolate. although it can even be considered to be rather dull, not as dull as vanilla though.
i only remember having coffee ice cream 1 time, and it was good. pretty strong if I remember. needed some creamer.
rocky road is great.... even though the base is often vanilla. when you add chocolate covered nuts and marshmallows.... SCRUMPTIOUS!!
Neopolitan.... good, not my favorite, but good.
here's what i would have had on my list (not in any particular order):
- peach
- black cherry
- chocolate chip mint
- chocolate eclair (Culvers version of this is out of sight!)
- oreo
- cinnamon (very rare.... just had this again last weekend at the Plush Horse)
- apple pie (same comments as on cinnamon)
- pumpkin (typically only around in the fall at outdoor events, but i always try to find some)
- honey (an IL state fair specialty... the IL beekeepers serve it every year; I remember family trips to the fair where honey ice cream was a must-stop.... along with the 25 cent ice cream bars at Prairie Farms)
speaking of ice cream, i have great memories of making our own at home when i was growing up. mom making the mix. dad busting up a big chunk of frozen ice in a burlap bag. me and my brother cranking while it was easy to turn, then changing jobs to use our butts to anchor the freezer in place while dad and PaPa finished the cranking. (and... not really related to ice cream.... dad pouring the salt water on weeds in driveway to kill them off.)
yum!
i think i need to make some ice cream this weekend !!
Out for now....
