work plant

we've had a lot of fun with this silly little plant at work.

it's one of those leafy green ones.  dark dark green waxy-lookin leaves.  with the occasional, somewhat-rare white blooms.

see them often at funerals.  and, as "grand opening" gifts.  sometimes to welcome a new baby.  quite a diversity of roles for this type of plant.  florists must love it.

not sure what it's called.  we named ours Nissy.

sometime around last Thanksgiving, we noticed Nissy was looking rather bleak.  likely only a few moons shy of certain, unescapable death.

so, we "adopted" it into our group and nursed it back to health.  was looking very very good.... until....

our group moved to a new building in downtown Decatur.  Nissy came with us, but didn't adjust well.

not sure if it was the lighting.
or the air/atmosphere.
or what.

but, once again, it started looking bleak.  yellow leaves.  no new growth.  some type of moldy fungus growing on the plant near the soil.

no, we didn't sing to it.
or play gentle instrumental music.
and, we didn't toss it out.

i pretty much attributed the issue to overwatering.  so, i started watching that closer.  plus, i topped off the soil and gave it some fertilizer.

guess what?
i come in this morning and Nissy has produced one of those occasional, somewhat-rare white blooms.  how cool!

almost death to revived to almost death (again) to a beautiful bloom.... first one we've seen since we adopted it.

funny how life works that way, whether it's a plant or a person.  no one, no Nissy, is ever beyond help or reach.  don't give up on people.  don't throw them out.  show love.  show kindness.  show patience.  show mercy.  what a difference you can make.

(note:  thruout this post, i have repeatedly  referred to the plant as "he", then had to go back and correct to "it".  weird, huh?)

out for now....
