Another Day, Another Dollar

as i was walking into work this morning, i overheard one lady greet another and ask how she was doing.

her serious-tone response.... "another day, another dollar".

i did not know either lady, so i do not know how long they've been working or what they do, but that 4-word response really bugged me.

in today's world, there are zillions of people looking for work.  some are unemployed.  some are underemployed. some are working a menial job, just to pay for the basics, some are working 2 jobs just to scrape by.

when i heard these words, my thoughts immediately turned to gratitude.  lady: why aren't you grateful for what you've got?  a good job, indoors, with good benefits.  why are you complaining?  others would kill for your job.  you make it sound like it's torturing you to come to work.  if that's the case, and you just can't be satisfied in your role, you have  my permission (not that you need it ) to look for another one.  see your job as a blessing.... for what it gives you, not what it may not give you.

granted, i am fully aware that we all have bad days.  things happen that don't go our way, make us grouchy, make us sad.  things just can be crappy sometimes.  been there, done that.

maybe this lady was having one of those days.

no matter what situation i find myself in, or what kind of day i'm having, i always try to find something positive to focus on.

today's an easy one.... it's Friday.  it's sunny, so i get to take a walk around downtown decatur at lunch.  i get to go to my daughters' VBS closing program tonight.

actually, everyday should be an easy one:
- i woke up, breathing
- my beautiful bride is laying next to me
- today is a new day, full of both opportunities and challenges
- i have use of my legs and can get out of bed on my own
- the house has clean, running water
- not only do i get to eat breakfast, but i have a choice of what to eat for breakfast
- i have friends and family who love me
- i have friends and family to love back
- i have a trusty black beauty of a steed to get me to work safely
- i am blessed

do you do that each morning?
should you be doing that each morning?

look for the small things in life folks.

big stuff will weigh you down.

use the small stuff to give you a foundation of peace and joy to carry you thru each day.

That's enough, i have more lunch-time walking to do.

out for now....
