Sanity on the Swing
it is so relaxing to be able to head to the porch and "sit a spell"... whether it be for just a couple minutes or a significant period of time. and, whether it be early morning, mid-day, evening, or after dark.
although, i will definitely say my favorite time to be out there is at sunset/dusk. (with early morning a close second)
why dusk? here's why:
this is what i see from my seat in the swing. looking west.
although this picture doesn't give a full visual representation, at sunset the sky turns such beautiful colors. all evenings are cool, but some evenings, the colors are absolutely stunning. reds, oranges, streaks of various colors and light.
even cooler is when the setting sun can be seen thru the leaves of the neighbor's tree (shown in the picture above). even though there's not much warmth in those last rays of the day, it is comforting to feel them shining into my face and look forward to the new day's rays that will come after a night of rest.
there is just something so peaceful, so calming, so relaxing to be able to sit out there and soak all this beauty in. (plus, watching for neat cloud formations is fun too.)
i have found that it really helps with maintaining sanity in life to be able to find a spot like this. a spot to breath, a spot to think, a spot to look around at the world around me and be reminded of how great life is.
some people have their "quiet spot" in a special part of their house.... a library, a sunroom, the bathroom. (just kidding about the potty.... i hope!!??!!??!!)
some people have their "quiet spot" outside.... on a walking path, on a bike ride, fishing in the middle of a lake.
in this crazy world in which we live, be sure to find your "sanity spot".
for me, give me the porch swing.
out for now.....
