There Is No Place Like Home
I grew up in the great little Village
of Kansas in the great Land of Lincoln.
There’s no place like home. Hee hee hee.
I was doing some research and came
across some interesting trivia about “Kansas”.
It is one of 8 Villages/Towns/Cities in the awesome state of Illinois that
shares its name with one of the United States.
The others are Wyoming, Oregon, Tennessee, Ohio, Oregon, Washington and
Vermont.
As I continued to look into this, I
came across some other neat stuff……
Each of the 8 has its own zip code --
Tennessee and Virginia are the only 2 in the 62xxx series... the other 6 are
all in the 61xxx series
Ohio Illinois is the highest, with an
elevation of 900 feet above sea level - the rest: Virginia 622', Tennessee
687', Oregon 695', Vermont 697', Wyoming 707', Washington 710', Kansas 710'
In terms of the date of incorporation,
Virginia is the oldest (1872) and Wyoming is the youngest (1898) -- the others:
Oregon 1873, Kansas 1873, Tennessee 1873, Ohio 1877, Washington 1878, Vermont 1880
2 of the 8 have close proximity to
Illinois State Parks: Wyoming (headquarters for the Rock Island Trail State
Park) & Virginia (Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish & Wildlife Area)
2 of the 8 are included as part of the
"Ronald Reagan Trail": Washington & Ohio (see www.ronaldreagantrail.net)
Only 1 of the 8 has an institution of
higher learning: Washington (Illinois Baptist College)
2 of the 8 are
County Seats: Virginia and Oregon
1 of the 8 is located on a body of
water: Oregon (Rock River)
2 of the 8 are
north of I-80: Oregon and Ohio
Only 1 of the 8 is NOT on a highway
(state or federal): Vermont
Only 1 of the 8 is east of I-55: Kansas
Of the 8, Washington has the largest
population (2000 Census) of 10,841 -- Tennessee is the smallest with only 144
-- the remainder: Oregon 4,060; Virginia 1,728; Wyoming 1,424; Kansas 842;
Vermont 792; Ohio 540
Even more amazing….
There are 3 others that no longer
exist, bringing the total to 11 – Utah, IL;
Nevada, IL; Kentucky, IL. 11 out of 50!
Fun stuff, huh? Take this with you to work tomorrow and
impress your friends. Hee hee hee.
Out for now….
