Bubble G

Did you know that yesterday was "National Chewing Gum Day" ?

As I think back thru the years, there are several "chewing gum memories" that come to mind.....

- back in my baseball card collecting days, the stick of gum inside the pack of cards was broken probably 70 to 80 percent of the time

- Mom had 2 types of gum that were her favorites... Double Bubble and the little 1 cent pieces of "PAL"

- Grandma Dottie buying us packs of "Fruit Stripe" gum

- our girls being excited to get a roll of Bubble Tape gum

- going with Dad into the Edgar County Farm Bureau office; picking up 2-packs of Chiclets gum from the County Companies agents

- decades of chewing gum wads stuck to the bottom of the wooden school desks at Kansas High School

- walking up to Acord's Grocery store in Kansas for 3 cent (or 5 cent?) pieces of Super Bubble (I definitely remember the apple and grape flavors)

- having Bazooka gum was such a treat because each piece came with a little comic wrapped up inside

- back in 6th (?) grade.... being so proud of my new pair of parachute pants.... then sitting on a piece of chewed gum left in the seat of the bus, ruining the pants

- contests at high school youth group to see who could chew enough pieces of gum and be the first to stretch them from the balcony of the Kansas Christian Church down to the first floor

- Grandpa and Grandma Honnold keeping a supply of Juicy Fruit readily available at their house;  can't remember if they had it in a jar ?  or maybe on a tray on the ledge of the counter ?

Golllllly!  Lots of good memories about chewing gum.

I sure have mentioned lots of gum brands.

Which have I forgotten?

Big League Chew
Doublemint
Hubba Bubba
Bubblicious
Bubble Yum
Trident
Big Red

Those are probably the ones I've stepped in walking on the parking lot.

Or sat in wearing parachute pants.

Out for now.....
