Gone in 2014

I came across an intriguing read today that I wanted to commentate upon.

"Commentate"?  Is that even a word?  Maybe "add commentary to" works better?

Anyway....

The article is titled:
Ten Brands That Will Disappear in 2014

Based on statistics, studies, and various interpretations of financial data, this guy with "24/7 Wall Street" put together his list of the most likely businesses and products to fail in the next year.

not a list that an executive would appreciate waking up and hearing that his company made.

pretty bad publicity.

It's very interesting on what he came up with for this year.  Surprisingly (to me), K-Fart did not make the list.

Here's the 10 --

J C Penney
Nook
Martha Stewart Living (magazine)
LivingSocial
Volvo
Olympus
WNBA
Leap Wireless
Mitsubishi Motors
Road and Track (magazine)

JCP.... no surprise at all there.  Bad reports have been all over the news for the last couple years.  If our local store in Forsyth IL is any indication of overall corporate position, it's bad.... very bad.  Empty space on the floor.  Unfilled shelves and racks.  Poor lighting.  Dated decor.  Dirty carpet.  Very few staff members.  Catalog desk, no more.

WNBA is an interesting inclusion.  Lots of folks have lots of money wrapped up in lots of teams in lots of cities.  And yet, no one is watching.

Olympus.... didn't realize they were in trouble.  our fam's digital camera is an Olympus.

Mitsubishi..... wow!  There's a big factory with lots of jobs up in Bloomington Illinois.

Nook.... another wow!  they just didn't keep up advancing technology like Amazon did with the Kindle.

Martha.... who cares.  she's a has-been.

LivingSocial and Leap Wireless.... don't know anything about these.

Some extra fun info....

look who was on the list for 2013:
American Airlines, Research in Motion (Blackberry), Talbots, Pacific Sunwear, Current TV, salon.com, Suzuki, Oakland Raiders, Avon, MetroPCS

and the 2012 list was:
Sears, Sony Pictures, American Apparel, Nokia, Saab, A&W All-American Foods Restaurants, Soap Opera Digest, Sony Ericsson, MySpace, Kellogg's Corn Pops

and 2011.....
Readers Digest, KIA Motors, Dollar Thrifty, Zale, Blockbuster, T-Mobile, Radio Shack, BP, Moody's, Merrill Lynch

Looks like they've accurately predicted quite a few over the years.

But seriously..... no K-Fart ?

Out for now.....
