11-12-13 COOL

Did you hear the news?

Today was a rather interesting day, especially for numerologists and "calendarologists" (i.e. people that REALLY love interesting numbers).

November 12, 2013
a "sequential pattern date"

11-12-13

In fact, a couple of my Facebook friends pointed out something even cooler.

Nine minutes and ten seconds after Eight this morning was:

There's more....
fifteen minutes and sixteen seconds after Two this afternoon was:
11-12-13 14:15:16 (military time)

Cool huh?

These "sequential pattern dates" only come around a few times each century.

We've already had:
01-02-03
02-03-04
03-04-05
04-05-06
05-06-07
06-07-08
07-08-09
08-09-10
09-10-11
10-11-12

And, after today, there's only 1 more left here in the 21st century: 12-13-14.

After that December day in 2014, the next "sequential pattern date" will be in 2103:  01-02-03.

I'll be long gone before that one!

A couple things pointed out on a USA Today article today:

David's Bridal estimates more than 3,300 brides will marry on 11/12/13 — a nearly eight-fold increase over the same date last year.

Brian Mills, general manager of Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel, said his chapel will perform 65 weddings today — compared with only seven last Tuesday.

And, this college professor out at the University of Portland really has some cool stats about "sequential pattern dates", or as he calls them "sequential calendar dates".

The Amazing Professor Inan gets into all sorts of other interesting date patterns, like "sequential odd-number calendar dates" and "sequential Fibonacci-Number calendar dates".  Interesting stuff. (kinda geeky though)

One thing he doesn't cover are "triple repeating dates".  Those are already over for this century, with 12-12-12 being the last one.

If I remember correctly, that was the day that the world was supposed to end, according to the Mayans' Oreo Cookie Calendar.... or something like that.

The next "triple repeating date" will be 01-01-01.... January 1, 2101.

Again, I'll be long gone before that one!

One other type of cool calendar pattern (not mentioned by the Prof) is the "palindrome date".

There are 38 of them in the 21st century, with the first one occurring back on October 2, 2001.

a palindrome.
reads the same from left to right as from right to left.
like the word "wow".

There was one earlier in 2013:
March 10, 2013 (3102013)

Here are the next 5, if you want to start planning your parties now.....

*April 10, 2014 (4102014)
*May 10, 2015 (5102015)
*June 10, 2016 (6102016)
*July 10, 2017 (7102017)
*August 10, 2018 (8102018)

WHOOPIE !!

Going back to the topic of "sequential pattern dates" that started off this blog entry....
I looked back in our family diary to see what we were doing on the last 2 of them....

09-10-11: all 3 girls helped me wash my car

10-11-12: I sat in the warm sunshine at lunch reading Bible

Heck, I know what one of the diary entries can be for today.....

11-12-13:  Matt spent way too much time thinking about calendar dates

Out for now.....
