Dying Blackberries

back on 9/4, I wrote here on MattChat about the sad state and demise of the Blackberry.

once.... a game-changing innovation.

now.... pretty much a has-been.

I caught an interesting update on this topic in the news today.

"What Blackberry Needs to Do to Survive"

Sub-title of this article is "the quintessential corporate phone now has 1.5 percent of the market — and a chance to turn things around."

1.5% of the market.  yeesh, what a fall.  technology just blew right past this company (Research in Motion) as they were basking in the massive success they were experiencing.

So, exactly what type of users make up that minuscule 1.5% market share, in this era where all sorts of more advanced smartphones are available?

"So who’s still using BlackBerry phones, anyway? Pretty much the same people who always did. The BlackBerry is still a “company car.” It’s not as exciting as the three families of phone that vastly outsell it. But like a midrange Toyota, a BlackBerry phone is reliable, familiar, and most importantly very easy to maintain in fleets."

Can Blackberry turn things around?

Doubtful.  They are too many laps behind and several pit crew members short.

Out for now....
