Sochi Squalor
"I watch Channel One and get the feeling that I am living in paradise. It's disgusting to hear the governor and the mayor singing songs to Putin, telling him that everything is fabulous."
(Igor Z.)
You read my post yesterday here on MattChat regarding the incredibly stunning price tag of the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi?
Here's the other side of the story... the parts that won't be shown on NBC's never-ending multiple network coverage.
So sad.
Putting on a show for the world, when your own people live in squalor just blocks away.
No power.
No potties.
Crumbling structures.
Slum.
Look at the picture above, folks.
What could just 1/50th of the Sochi construction budget done for these people? Amazing things. Life-changing things.
As much as we enjoy the Olympics from our sofas and recliners halfway around the world, remember the common folk of Sochi. Forgotten by their government. No glitz and glamour for them.
Out for now.....
