3 Days to Kill Flick
Last Friday evening, the Lovely Mrs. Honnold and I went to the Avon Theater in downtown Decatur Illinois to watch the new Kevin Costner action flick "3 Days to Kill".
I did not have huge expectations going in to the movie, as I kinda see this as Kevin trying to reinvent himself to revive his somewhat dead career.
However, at the end of the movie, she and I looked at each other and agreed that "3 Days to Kill" was actually a pretty good film.
Good action. And a surprisingly good (and not corny) plot. The story behind the story of family reconciliation was a nice surprise.
As I told the Avon Theater gal in the lobby (who hadn't seen the movie yet), it won't be a blockbuster, but it was definitely an enjoyable $6x2 experience.
Yes, there was stupid stuff that just didn't make sense and quite honestly cluttered up the movie. But that stuff aside, it was not an unenjoyable experience to sit thru the 117 minutes.
The reviews for "3 Days to Kill" are coming in pretty bad, attacking everything from the script to the plot to the action scenes to Kevin Costner himself.
Here's one of the worst (People Magazine):
It wouldn't be so egregious that 3 Days to Kill is six different movies in one, if any of them were actually decent. As it is, the spy/action/terminal-illness/coming-of-age/cultural-exchange/family dramedy is such a misguided mess that not only does it fail to get where it's going, I can't even tell you where it's coming from.
Amongst the many bad reviews, here are 2 of the better (more gracious) ones that I have read:
If you've not yet seen this one - and still want to - you may want to save your movie admission and spend a buck at Redbox in a few months.
We enjoyed it, but when we go to the movies, we're there more to spend time together rather than turn into Siskel and Ebert.
Out for now......
