Go Lego Go
"A decade ago Lego was in crisis.... equity firms were circling the 82-year-old family-owned Danish company."
"Now the plastic brick business has rebuilt itself into the world's most profitable toy maker ahead of Barbie's Mattel."
"Its high profitability comes from its ability to turn each kilogram of raw material plastic – which costs less than $1 – into sets that sell for more than $75 per kg."
Yeah, I'll admit that Legos have always been pricey and over the last few years have become even more so.
Yet, they are so cool!
Part of childhood. Basically, today's version of the Erector Set, Lincoln Logs, and Tinker Toys. Right?
I had them growing up.
Now, my kids are enjoying them as well. And I think the new array of Lego colors (black, grey, pink, etc.) rocks!
Our library here in town even has Legos for kids to play with.
And I know there are Lego clubs and competitions involving motors, gears, pulleys, etc., basically making robots and machines out of kid building blocks.
There are stores that sell just Legos.
You can design your own Lego kits on their website.
And "The Lego Movie" has been a blockbuster hit this winter.
What a way for this company to reinvent their dying brand and go from "survive" to "thrive" mode!
As a side note, ain't this a great Lego sculpture?
Out for now.....
