Just another example of how screwed-up the management of our Illinois government is right now.
While Governor Quinn is bee-bopping around the state touting new housing programs and a statewide bicycle plan, this is the situation in Springfield:
85 brand-new State Police cars.
Sitting on a lot at the State Fairgrounds FOR OVER A YEAR NOW.
The problem:
"Leave it to Illinois lawmakers to find a way to hit up taxpayers for new police cruisers, only to learn — surprise! — that the state's too broke to pay for the technicians to install the upgrades. The left hand ordered up all these cruisers while the right hand was redlining the state budget. So Illinois State Police officials are still patching up the old cars while searching for a bigger parking lot to hold the new ones."
For over a year, these cars have been sitting.
Meanwhile, our brave and selfless State Policemen are driving around clunkers that have 130k, 140k, 150k+ miles. Dealing with clangs, clunks, squeals, and rattles.
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
What a mess !
Wake up Illinois!!
