Unhealthy Illinois
I just came across a study which ranks the 102 counties in Illinois based on their overall health.
Some of the criteria used were:
- mortality rates
- high school graduation rates
- obesity rates
- access to healthy food (I'm not exactly sure what this one means? how far you have to drive to what? a Subway?)
Anyway, 9 of the 10 most unhealthy counties are south of I-70, in the southern 1/3 of the state:
How about the healthy counties? The ones where people live a joyous life, eating tofu daily and running 5K's each weekend?
For the most part, it looks like west=health:
My home county (Edgar) was 62.
My adopted county (Macon) was 84.
Hmmmm.... guess we still need more Subways.
Read more about the study:
Out for now.....
