Pay to Perform Halftime

Now this is interesting.

In its constant search for new ways to generate cash, the NFL has come up with the ingenious idea of considering charging musical artists to perform the Super Bowl halftime show.

Yup:

So instead of the NFL paying the artist to put on the 13-15 minute concert, the artist would pay for that opportunity.

What an incredible idea.  Note: by using the word "incredible", I am not indicating that I am for or against this idea.

However, it sure is intriguing.

Exactly how much cash would an artist lay down to take the stage at one of the world's most watched sports/TV events?

Millions and millions, to be sure.

What if the NFL said that half the winning bid would go to charity?

"Millions and millions" would grow even higher.

The strategy could really backfire though if some cash-laden bozo or no name performer decided to go "all in" for the opportunity.

Can you imagine how lame of a halftime show a cellist or an opera dude or a polka singer would be?  YIKES -- talk about ruining halftime!

Speaking of ruining halftime, Forbes has a little to say about that:

We will have to wait and see how this all plays out.

Supposedly, Katy Perry, Coldplay, and Rihanna are the 3 finalists for the next Super Bowl (February 2015).

None of those 3 excites me to the point of caring at all who pays who how much.

I'll likely be refilling my plate at that time.

Out for now....
