15 Best Illinois Colleges

Forbes has come out with this year's ranking of top 500 U.S. colleges and universities.
2 Illinois schools made the top 25.
And, a total of 15 Illinois schools made the list of 500.  Here they are:

  1. Northwestern University (#19)



  2. University of Chicago (#24)

  3. University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (#68)

  4. Wheaton College (#75)

  5. Knox College (#149)

  6. Lake Forest College (#236)

  7. Illinois Institute of Technology (#247)

  8. Augustana College (#248)

  9. Illinois Wesleyan University (#253)

  10. Bradley University (#278)

  11. Loyola University Chicago (#312)

  12. DePaul University (#320)

  13. University of Illinois, Chicago (#361)

  14. Elmhurst College (#459)

  15. Illinois State University (#478)


No EIU, SIU, NIU, or WIU.

Maybe too small?
Maybe not prestigious enough?

Maybe Forbes just doesn't like universities with a compass direction in the title?  Of course, that doesn't explain Northwestern.... but they have the "prestige factor" going for them.
