Picture 9/1: Dead Heads
September 1
(picture 244 of 365)
I took care of the first layer of the "garden dismantling process" today.
Chopped the heads off the 3 large sunflowers that grew this year:
It amazes me how the sunflower plant will grow and grow and grow all spring/summer, reaching heights of 8-12 feet, then produce a bloom that's beautiful for only 4-7 days.
All that.... then life is over.
Some folks leave their sunflowers in the garden thru winter, so that the seeds can supply food to the birds.
That seems so much nobler than ending up in a lawn bag, awaiting the trash man on Wednesday.
I did save back some seed, so there will be new/renewed life next Spring.
Out for now......
