We had a great time at the Argenta-Oreana Elementary School Christmas Program last night.
Our youngest and all her friends did a great job.
And the music teacher that put the show together (Cora Jeffers) did a stunningly awesome job at working with and interacting with all the kids.
(2 separate shows actually..... the first for K-1 and the second for 2-4 grades.)
One big disappointment though.
There was not a single one of the traditional Christmas songs sung.
No Away in a Manger.
Or Hark the Herald Angels Sing.
No First Noel.
Not even Joy to the World.
I hate to see that. A school district bowing to the pressure to sanitize the holiday season.
Not letting the kids experience the full collection of Christmas tunes.
Years ago, 3 music teachers ago, the whole audience would have a sing-along at the end of the concert. We'd all sing one of the classics together.
Silent Night, if I remember correctly.
No more.
And that sucks.
