Amtrak Across Illinois
For those not already familiar with Amtrak's presence in Illinois, there are currently 3 lines:
- between Chicago and St. Louis, more-or-less following Route 66 and I-55
- south out of Chicago, basically along I-57 all the way down to Carbondale and points beyond
- west out of Chicago to Galesburg, then out into Iowa
2 other facts:
- Amtrak is more-or-less bankrupt.... on serious life support
- Illinois is very near to bankruptcy.... serious, serious financial problems
So, all that said, I just about coughed up a lung when I read this:
Amtrak is studying potential rail service between Danville and the Quad Cities, and the study's outcome could be known within a few months, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
SERIOUSLY?
Yeah, you read that right folks.
Danville to Champaign to Bloomington to Peoria to Galesburg to the Quad-Cities.
Here's the full story:
This is a colossal waste of money.
We cannot afford what we've already got.
And they want to add more.
That's government in 2015 for you, folks.
Out for now.......
