Picture 2/4: Hanging Suet

SUET: the hard fatty tissue about the loins and kidneys of beef, sheep, etc., used in cooking or processed to yield tallow

We treat the birds around these parts pretty well.

For many months, we've had a bird feeder hanging outside the kitchen window for the little flying creatures to feast upon.

We recently switched things up:

Yup, a suet feeder...... various types of seed lodged inside a cake of disgusting fat/grease.  Not exactly what I'd call yummy.

And apparently, neither do the birds.

The traffic flow thru the feeder has dropped significantly since we switched to suet.

I don't know what will happen once the temps start to warm-up again.  Will the suet get mushy and start to fall out of the feeder.

That would be just plain gross.  And would definitely necessitate a switch back to the old feeder (dry seed).

I'm not going to stand for beef loins dripping down and landing on top of my noggin.

Out for now......
