Cost of Schock Election

The unnecessary spending of taxpayer dollars continues.

You hear about this one?

County clerks worried about being ready for the upcoming special election for U.S. Rep.Aaron Schock's seat are asking Illinois lawmakers to delay a new state law allowing same-day voter registration.

Why?

The special election is likely to occur after June 1, when the new law takes effect. But clerks in the 18th Congressional District say they won't have enough money or time to implement changes needed to comply with the law.

How much we talking here?

McLean County (Bloomington) $300,000

Sangamon County (Springfield) $200,000

And there are 17 more counties in Schock's district.

Yeesh.  Probably $1 mill. or more in total that could be used on roads or for schools.

I am not a fan of same-day registration.  It's basically a cop-out for those too lazy to get registered ahead of time.  Just more unnecessary coddling by our government.

If we are going to allow same-day registrations, keep it limited to the county clerk's office.  There does not need to be registration available at every single precinct.

The last thing the election judges need is something else to complicate their job.

Most of them that I've encountered on Election Day don't really act like they care or want to be there anyway.

Folks, there is no money.
When will we realize that?

Out for now......

Matt
