Farewell Dave

There are a lot of folks out there who grew up with Johnny Carson as their "King of Late Night".

For me, it wasn't Johnny.  It was Dave.

Stupid Pet Tricks.
Top Ten Lists.
Pies from his mom.
Strange stunts and contests.

Funny stuff.

David Letterman only has about 3 weeks of shows left before he hangs up his microphone and calls it a career.  (or at least this part of his career)

There's a 90-minute special coming up Monday night on CBS that is going to celebrate Dave and relive some of his show's best moments.

Looking forward to watching that.

And take a read thru the tribute piece that another very funny guy, Conan O'Brien, put together:

Conan writes:
"Dave’s show was that rare phenomenon: a big, fat show business hit that seemingly despised show business. Dave didn’t belong, and he had no interest in belonging. He amused himself, skewered clueless celebrity guests, and did strange, ironic comedic bits that no one had seen on television before. Everything about that show was surreal and off-kilter. Where late night television had once provided comfort, this man reveled in awkwardness."

"Not one single writer/performer in the last 35 years has had Dave’s seismic impact on comedy. In today’s’ world of 30 late night programs, it’s tempting now to take Dave for granted. Do not. Dave was a true revolution.  Like all revolutions, it was such a seismic shift that it was disorienting and a bit messy at first, and it has taken us time to realize the sheer magnitude of the shift."

There are still and will continue to be funny guys on late night TV.

But Dave's retirement leaves a big comedic void.

Out for now......
