For my very persistent sore throat, the doctor prescribed a swig of this:
thick.
cold.
slimy.
It was really, REALLY nasty!
(NOTE: doc warned me that it was going to be really, REALLY nasty)
And it numbed my throat.
And tongue.
And mouth.
Luckily, 1 dose did the trick.
Out for now........
