This morning, I was down sprucing-up the "WELCOME TO DECATUR" sign on Route 48.
Spotted this laying in the weeds near TopFlight Grain's railroad tracks:
Looks like an old spike plate, likely left behind when they made repairs to the line last year.
I would love to know when this thing was forged. And what year it was originally installed.
Although the line isn't a very busy one, I still view this plate as a small piece of local history.
