Pitch Count

Coming in 2017...... pitch counts for Illinois high school baseballers:

For the first time, Illinois High School Association member schools must adhere to a pitch-count limit after a mandate from the NFHS on the subject. Few states previously had such a rule, with the Land of Lincoln limiting pitchers to no more than seven innings per day in the postseason.

Trying to make a dent in the number of Tommy John surgeries on 22 year olds.

There are a bunch of open/unanswered questions though, such as:

-What is the limit?
-What is the rest period?
-Who will control it?
-How will it be enforced?
-How will it be legislated?

Yup, those are important ones!

I can't imagine the umpire will keep count.  But will they let this be a self-governing thing with each manager responsible for his own counting?  Or will there be required to be a volunteer "official" at each game that takes care of counts for both teams?

Who knows?

Out for now........
