The Coliseum is Collapsing

Just another side effect / casualty of the on-going financial mismanagement mess here in our once great state of Illinois:

The mainstay Coliseum at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield has deteriorated to the point the popular venue is no longer safe for public use, initial inspections of the 115-year-old structure have found.

Yeesh.

And in our state which is pretty much broker than broke, the price tag is prohibitive, to say the least:

Fixing the multiple issues could cost nearly $3.7 million, according to the report, including $2.2 million for replacement and repairs to upper, middle and lower roofs. The figure could go higher with a more detailed analysis.

A beautiful building -- full of history -- slowly crumbling away.

Out for now.......

Matt

p.s. I still remember chowing on my potato tornado in the Coliseum back in 2014:
