Predicting 2017 Bird Ball
With the NFL season now closed (after one mighty exciting and dramatic Super Bowl), might as well start thinking baseball.
Cardinals baseball!
Spotted this on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch website today...... not good news......
If Baseball Prospectus is correct, you can expect lots of Cardinals tears this year.
BP released its annual PECOTA projections on Tuesday, predicting the 2017 Cardinals will finish with their worst record since 2007 and win fewer than 77 games this season.
Based on BP’s Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm, the Cardinals are expected to finish tied for third in the National League Central with a 76-86 record. If that projection is correct, they'll finish tied for the fourth worst record in the NL.
PECOTA projects that the Cardinals will score 708 runs and give up 756 with a .253 batting average, .317 on-base percentage and .411 slugging percentage.
The defending World Series champions are projected to win the NL Central with a 91, followed by the Pirates (81-81), Cardinals and Brewers (76-86) and Reds (74-88).
The Dodgers are projected to finish with the best record in the NL at 98-64. The Mets are projected to win the NL East with an 88-74 record.
The Astros are BP’s darlings in the American League. They are projected to win the AL West with a 93-69 mark. The defending AL champion Indians are favored in the Central with a 92-70 projection. The Red Sox are projected to win the AL East with a 90-72 record.

That's the first prediction I've seen so far.
Sure hope the next one has a little more optimism.
Out for now........
