Illinois P.E.

Until tonight, I did not know this:

Illinois currently has the distinction of being only state that requires daily physical education.

The only state out of the 50 states that is getting it right.

While I don't always agree with some of the silly games and overboard lesson plans utilized by the girls' Phys.Ed. teachers, I do agree that it's a good thing for all kids to be active for 30-40 minutes of the school day.

For many of them, it's pretty much all they're gonna get.

So now, there is this:

Illinois state lawmakers are being asked to leave schools' physical education requirements out of the "grand bargain" budget resolution that's being negotiated in the Illinois Senate.

Senate Bill 13, one of the bills that are packaged in the "grand bargain," primarily focuses on a property tax freeze. But it also allows school districts to reduce physical education requirements to three days a week, and would expand exceptions available to high school students who participate in extracurricular physical activities.

3 days a week.

Expanded exceptions.

Sounds like a stupid plan that'll lead to more unhealthy teens.

What does something like this really have to do with the budget process anyway?

It's politics.

Stupid, ridiculous politics.

In this case, using teens as pawns.

Out for now.........
