Macon County Beltway
The final version of the map/project has been released:
The Macon County Beltway.
That yellow line above. That's new road.
Cutting right thru prime farmground.
Connecting the north side of Decatur with the south side using 4-lane controlled access highway.
The western portion of the Beltway already exists, so completion of this project would result in a complete loop around the City of Decatur.
Springfield does not have that.
Neither does Champaign-Urbana.
Nor does Bloomington.
The Beltway is years and years down the road. Funding and land acquisition are 2 big hurdles.
What is the payback on this thing?
Will it increase commerce, spur growth and alleviate traffic issues?
And, does government really need more roads & bridges to maintain when they can't keep-up with what already exists?
Time will tell.
