Picture 7/30: Snake at the Sign

While sprucing-up the WELCOME TO DECATUR sign this afternoon, I came to the realization that I was not alone:

While on the ground, he was very spunky about defending his territory.

However, he seemed to have very little issue with being held.

I know very little about snakes.  Sure hope this wasn't some kind of venomous killer.
