Fining in the Crosswalk

Yet another attempt is being made to pass a law which has no business being a law.

Yeesh.


Some on the Chicago City Council want to issue fines to pedestrians caught in the crosswalk while using their cell phone.

Yup!


Chicago has no business fining people “legally crossing the street” — even if they’re distracted by texting, reading emails, playing video games or talking on their cellphones, the city’s leading advocate for pedestrians said Thursday.

One day after a pair of powerful aldermen proposed hefty fines for “distracted walking,” the executive director of the Active Transportation Alliance branded the crackdown “misdirected.”

We simply do not have time to be dealing with this nanny state stuff.  The government (local, state, federal) needs to focus on governing in a fiscally-responsible manner.

Bad laws don't help anyone.
