Claiming a Billion Plus
Just when you thought it wasn't gonna happen........
A South Carolina resident has come forward belatedly to claim last October's $1.5 billion Mega Millions jackpot, the South Carolina Education Lottery announced Monday. The winner chose to remain anonymous, so the mystery surrounding the second-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history will not be fully resolved. The winner has decided to take a one-time payment of nearly $878,000,000, the biggest jackpot payout to a single winner ever. Lottery officials said the winner let another customer buy a Mega Millions ticket before them in line, leading to the "amazing outcome." Three buyers split the biggest jackpot in U.S. history, a $1.585 billion Powerball prize, in 2016.
The winning ticket was sold between Oct. 20 and Oct. 23 of last year at a convenience store in Simpsonville, a suburb of the South Carolina city of Greenville.
The winner had until April 19 to claim the prize. The statement Monday gave no clue as to why the winner took his or her time to come forward.
Can you imagine what's been going thru this person's mind over the last 4+ months?
And would you have waited this long to claim? What if the ticket got lost? Or stolen? Or burned? What if a health issue had occurred causing memory loss? Or death?
What a story. What a life-changer. Hopefully for the better.
Grace & Peace & Love to you all -
Matt
