Fungus on Strawberries

Way back in 2015, I posted here on MattChat about a strange banana fungus:

For an update on that, see below.

Now today, I hear about a strawberry fungus:

A nasty fungus has invaded some Florida strawberry fields, threatening berry yields in the nation's second-largest strawberry-producing state.

The fungus, called pestalotiopsis, causes berries, leaves and roots to rot and turn brown.

While Florida's subtropical climate makes it possible to grow strawberries in the winter, it also makes plants more susceptible to rot.

The current outbreak of the fungus affected about one quarter of Florida's strawberry fields, and about half of the strawberries grown organically.

I tell ya, there just ain't anything fun about a fungus.

Grace & Peace & Love to you all -

Matt

p.s. the banana fungus -> it's still around and still causing issues!  August 2019:  A fungus that has wreaked havoc on banana plantations in the Eastern Hemisphere has, despite years of preventative efforts, arrived in the Americas.  ICA, the Colombian agriculture and livestock authority, confirmed on Thursday that laboratory tests have positively identified the presence of so-called Panama disease Tropical Race 4 on banana farms in the Caribbean coastal region. The announcement was accompanied by a declaration of a national state of emergency.
