Helping the Koalas

Yeesh are things over in Australia such a mess.  The bushfires are devastating home, countryside and habitat.

No mercy from the flames right now.

When I think Australian wildlife, 2 creatures come to mind:  the kangaroo and the koala.

Haven't heard much in the news about kangaroos...... but the koalas are suffering.

Here's an excellent update on what is being done to help:

Heartbreak and help: Mission to rescue fires' furry victims

Injuries/burns are a big one.  And then, there's starvation:

“If they are in uniformly burnt areas, after a few weeks they’re not going to survive.  What we're seeing now is changing with the animals coming in, they're all dehydrated because they get their moisture mainly from leaves… post fire, they're starving and losing condition, they’ve lost weight.  In terms of resilience for coping with weight loss, they don’t have a lot of reserves. If they're out there and not found, they'll starve. They won't have any leaves to eat.”  (Dr. Michael Lynch)

So much to deal with over there.

Grace & Peace & Love to you all -
