Lincoln Shooting

Today's an anniversary for those who study the life & Presidency of Abraham Lincoln.

Ford’s Theater on 10th Street between E and F Streets, was the site of President Lincoln’s assassination on April 14, 1865.

Interesting factoid:
Lincoln’s main bodyguard, Ward Hill Lamon did not attend the play and, instead, John Parker, a police guard well known for his love of whisky, protected the president. Parker left his post outside the presidential box during intermission to satisfy an alcoholic craving at the nearby Star Saloon.

And more on John Parker's life:

We visited Ford's Theater on a family vacation years and years ago - back when I was in Junior High probably.  However, I do not remember much about the Theater;  can't even picture what the stage or the President's box looked like.

Lincoln died only 42 days into his 2nd term.  Ever wonder how 1865-1868 might have been different if Honest Abe were in charge?

Grace & Peace & Love to you all -
