Anthem Replaced by Woody

Catch this story?

Tulsa's team in the semi-pro National Premier Soccer League has announced it will no longer play the U.S. national anthem at its home matches and will instead feature Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" as its designated "song of patriotism."

Why?  (other than stupidity, that is)

A rarely sung third verse of "The Star-Spangled Banner" contains the line: "No refuge could save the hireling and slave / From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave…”

After reviewing the lyrics, Tulsa Athletic officials did not feel the song "represents or unites their diverse players, fans and community."

So because of some dated lyrics in an obscure verse, we're gonna ditch The Star-Spangled Banner for Woody Guthrie?

Woody Guthrie..... the communist sympathizer.

Seriously people?

Grace & Peace & Love to you all -

Matt

p.s. full lyrics of that third verse our national anthem:

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
