Learning About Marigolds

As I've stated multiple times here on MattChat, marigolds are one of my favorite flowers to grow each summer.

I learned a couple interesting things about marigolds recently.

1)
There are multiple names for marigolds including:
Mexican tarragon
sweet mace
pericon
yerbaniz
hierbanis
huacatay
stinking roger
black mint
khakibos

2)
The largest family of flowering plants is the ubiquitous sunflower family (Asteraceae or Compositae).  The sunflower family includes a great diversity of species, including annuals, perennials, stem succulents, vines, shrubs and trees. Familiar common names, such as daisies, marigolds, zinnias, gazanias, chrysanthemums, dandelions, thistles, ragweeds, sagebrush, cosmos and dahlias all belong to this family.

3)
You can find marigolds in shades ranging from off-white or ivory through deep reds, with all yellow and orange colors in between. The seeds sold as blue marigold or purple marigold seeds online are actually chrysanthemums or just a scam.

Which explains this:

Looks like a marigold.  And was being sold as a marigold.  But, I was pretty darn sure that there was no such thing as a blue marigold.

However, now that I know marigolds and chrysanthemums are related, that pretty much explains things.

Grace & Peace & Love to you all -
