There will be police reform.
And there needs to be police reform.
Sensible police reform.
SENSIBLE is key.
Our police officers are an extremely valued and valuable part of American society. They are critical to maintaining law and order.
We must not handicap them from accomplishing their important mission.
Ideas I'm seeing tossed-around:
- training reform
- law enforcement licensing system
- increased use of tasers to subdue, rather than use of physical contact
- eliminate chokeholds, carotid restraint, etc.
- ban no-knock search warrants
- stricter discipline protocols
- open disciplinary records
- database for "use of force" incidents
