Trio of Eclipses
Today there’s a “Strawberry Moon” -- a full Moon that from half the world is also a lunar eclipse.
Just like clockwork, this “Strawberry Moon Eclipse” kicks-off three eclipses:
5 Jun 2020: penumbral lunar eclipse—“Strawberry Moon Eclipse”
June 21, 2020: annular solar eclipse—“Ring of Fire”
4 July: penumbral lunar eclipse—“Thunder Moon Eclipse”
Together they make an “eclipse season".
So, what's a "strawberry moon"?
While the term ‘Strawberry Moon” simply refers to June's full Moon (though it's also called the “Hot Moon”), the “Strawberry Moon Eclipse” refers to the fact that this full Moon will pass into Earth’s outer shadow in space. Visible to observers in Asia, Africa and Australia, 57% of the “Strawberry Moon Eclipse” will be covered by Earth’s penumbral shadow during this event.
This article is interesting..... but goes pretty deep. Good luck:
