African Polio

I was not aware of this, as it's seen as an "old disease" that is not talked about much at all.......

Polio still runs rampant in 2 countries:

The last evidence of wild poliovirus type 1 transmission in Nigeria was in September 2016, leaving only two polio-endemic countries (having never interrupted the transmission of indigenous wild poliovirus type 1), which are Afghanistan and Pakistan.

But in the last month, polio has returned to Africa.   Ugggh.

The world is at a 'dangerous moment' in the fight against diseases like polio, a senior World Health Organization official said, as efforts begin to immunize 23 million children across five African countries after an outbreak in Malawi.

In February, Malawi declared its first case of wild poliovirus in 30 years, when a 3-year old girl in the Lilongwe district was paralyzed as a result of her infection.

The case raised alarm because Africa was declared free of wild polio in 2020.

We simply cannot let polio gain a foothold again.  Have you ever reviewed photos of polio-stricken kiddos.  So debilitating.  So sad.

The world must fight hard on this.  We have the cure/vaccine!  There is no reason for any child to suffer.

Grace & Peace & Love to you all -
