New Words 17

Came across some more "new" words & phrases.

This is set #17 of these that I've posted here on MattChat.

As with previous posts, these are not necessarily "brand new"...... just new to me:  words that I've come across recently which I do not recall hearing before.

(I sure hope that one of the words below wasn't included on an earlier "New Words" post...... 'cause that forgetfulness would make me look just a tad bit OLD)

BANANA: slang acronym for "build absolutely nothing anywhere near anything"

casu marzu:

a traditional Sardinian cheese made of sheep’s milk and containing live maggots, which are responsible for the cheese’s fermentation

sour crude:

a type of crude oil known for its relatively high sulfur content;  the presence of sulfur makes oil more difficult and costly to refine, causing sour crude to be viewed as a less desirable form of crude oil

stimmy (stimulus):

a slang term that has taken hold to refer to the economic stimulus payments made to Americans by the U.S. government as part of coronavirus relief

monobob:

an individual version of the bobsled event; one athlete has to do all the pushing, driving, and braking

ecocide:

the destruction of large areas of the natural environment as a consequence of human activity

vagus nerve:

the longest and most complex of the cranial nerves; runs from the brain through the face and thorax to the abdomen

frost quake (AKA cryoseism):

naturally-occurring phenomena caused by the freezing and expansion of water deep within the earth's crust, which results in the cracking of the ground, rock, etc., in the vicinity of the frozen water

Carrington Event:

the most intense geomagnetic storm in recorded history (September 1859)

Big Mac Index:

a survey created by The Economist magazine in 1986 to measure purchasing power parity (PPP) between nations, using the price of a McDonald's Big Mac as the benchmark

You ever used any of those 10?  Maybe it'd be a good challenge for this week to see how many you can fit into your conversations?

Grace & Peace & Love to you all -
