Colorful Litter

Spotted something for sale that I did not know existed.

Color-changing cat litter.

I wonder how well this stuff sells - it is pricey!

So why would a cat owner want color changing litter? It does not benefit the cat..... at least not directly, that is.

PrettyLitter is primarily intended for Cat Mom.

As a diagnostic tool.

When the PrettyLitter crystals appear dark yellow or olive green, your cat’s urine is in the typical pH range.

Blue: Alkalinity outside of the average range may be present if your cat has certain types of urinary tract infections and increase the risk of struvite crystal/stone formation.

Orange: Acidity outside the average range may be an early sign of metabolic acidosis or kidney tubular acidosis. Calcium oxalate crystals can be more likely to form in acidic urine.

Red: The presence of blood may indicate Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disorder (FLUTD), bladder stones/crystals, kidney stones, bladder inflammation, certain types of kidney disease and clotting disorders. In rarer cases it can also mean bladder cancer or an internal injury. PrettyLitter does not detect trace amounts of blood on a micro level.

Worth it? Not in this house.

Our cats love their old-fashioned sweet-smelling gravel.
