New Words 27

Came across some more "new" words & phrases.

This is set #27 of these that I've posted here on MattChat.

FRIENDLY DISCLAIMER:
As with previous posts, these are not necessarily "brand new"...... just new to me:  words that I've come across recently which I do not recall hearing before.

(I sure hope that one of the words below wasn't included on an earlier "New Words" post...... 'cause that forgetfulness would make me look just a tad bit OLD)

pareidolia: the phenomenon in which people see faces or other patterns in ambiguous images, such as Jesus on toast or the man in the moon

haboob: very strong dust and sand storm that moves through a hot and dry region

tymbal: the vibrating membrane in the shrilling organ of a cicada

pink sauce: creamy and savory concoction blending two classic Italian sauces: marinara and Alfredo;  AKA rosa sauce

theonomy: hypothetical Christian form of government in which society is ruled by divine law

molly-whopped: to beat someone up; to slap someone hard

listicle: a published article structured in the form of a list, typically having some additional content relating to each item

clean desk policy: guidelines from management requiring employees to clear their desks of documents and data storage devices at the end of the workday

coprophagy:  from the Greek “to eat dung”;  a behavior where an animal reingests its own excreted feces;  has been observed in the rabbit, rat, mouse, hamster, guinea pig, and chinchilla

traffic calming: a set of design interventions aimed at slowing or diverting car traffic to reduce the chance of crashes and improve safety for all road users

tully monster: ancient/extinct six-inch-long, stalk-eyed creature that lived in the seas of modern-day Illinois;  recognized as the Illinois State Fossil

And there you have 'em!  Gonna try to work any into a sentence this week?

Grace & Peace & Love to you all -
