Celebration Time !

for Decatur, and the surrounding area, one of the most-looked-forward-to events of the summer (and year) is Decatur Celebration (DC).

DC is a free street festival in downtown Decatur, featuring all genres of great music, all types of delicious foods, and a large collection of street vendors selling everything from shades to crafts to crap.

i love spending time at Celebration.  if time and schedules allowed, i would spend a great chunk of the weekend down there, taking in the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes.

since i work downtown, i was able to get out and explore Celebration 3 times today.

i left home a little early this morning, so i could walk around, see what was going on down there at 7 AM, and take some pictures.  my favorite:

i had always heard that the downtown transformation between Thursday night and Friday morning was an amazing site. and it was.

traffic lights turned off.

streets barricaded.

electrical lines and water hoses run.

stages being assembled.

and vendors moving in for the weekend.  like this one:

ummmmmm... creepies!!

i went back out at lunch and the transformation was continuing.

most stages ready and sound equipment being set-up.

craftsmen setting up their tents.

a whole bunch more food vendors rolled into place, with one even having the charcoal fired up:

i tried to say "welcome to Decatur" to as many as i could.

it's so neat to have them join us and be a part of DC.

after work, i was back out walking around to see how things were looking.

crowd was starting to grow.

bands were warming up.

food vendors were ready to serve.

WAND was there.....

(i think they were confused why i was taking their picture.  Boo-yah!  you are on my blog!)

i had to run and get pizza and hurry home, as there's a birthday sleepover here tonight.

but, i will be back at DC tomorrow, as i have a volunteer shift from 8PM to midnight.

i can't wait!

(i think i'll go down early and do some more walking.)

out for now....

Matt
