R T T

hey, it's Thursday.  the day conveniently sandwiched between Humpday and Friday.

Thought I'd be a little scattered today and post some RTT's (Random Thursday Thoughts).....

Thanks to God for the rain this morning.  Although it didn't last long and didn't amount to much, we sure needed it!  I really needed it!  After a month of dryness, including a stretch of several 90+ degree days, things today just seem so clean, renewed, refreshed.

Speaking of rain, the Estes Park area out in Colorado (gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park) got nailed overnight.  something like 5-6 inches with more on the way.  All sorts of road closures from washouts and mudslides.  Why am I telling you this?  We have loved ones in Estes Park right now (on vacation).  As of this morning, they could not leave, even if they wanted to.

Last night, I cut off the heads from our dead sunflowers in the backyard.

Emmy was curious as to what I was doing and cane out to investigate.  Long story short, she ended up with over 35 little pupae/larvae/worms in a glass jar. (the little guys had burrowed themselves into the seeds on the head.)  we put the glass jar on the front porch last night with no lid, and most of them escaped.  WHOOPS!!  (I didn't think they could scale the slippery side of a glass jar.)  The Lovely Mrs. Honnold was not pleased that 30+ baby caterpillars/moths were crawling on her front porch decorations.  OOPS!

Read in the news this morning that 1/3 of all food grown on this Earth goes to waste.  Various reasons for that:  poor harvesting practices, loss during processing and transportation, spoilage at store/home, uneaten stuff thrown in garbage, etc.  Incredible to think about this.... one-third!  33%!!  with all the hunger, malnutrition and starvation around the globe, this is just a really sad statistic.  we as a "people" gotta get better with this.  one of the things I try to remind the girls constantly is to only take what they can eat, saying "you can always have more".  "more" is a blessing that too many take for granted -- and thus, it ends up in the trash as food waste.  sad.

That's all my RTT's for today.  Thx for reading.

out for now.....
