Shortage of Canned Pumpkin
STOCK UP NOW, FOLKS!
There's likely gonna be a shortage of canned pumpkin by December:
Heavy rains in central Illinois earlier this season near Morton, the “pumpkin capital of the world,” stunted the crop and carved a significant hole in commercial pumpkin production.
Roz O’Hearn, corporate and brand affairs director of Nestle USA, which owns the Libby’s pumpkin canning facility in Morton, said recent harvest activity confirmed the worst fears of many pumpkin producers.
“The pumpkins just didn’t form well with all the rain (last spring and early summer),” O’Hearn told FarmWeek. “Early on we thought yields could be off as much as one-third. Now, we’re looking at yields reduced by half.”
