Obituary Writing

A wise pastor once told us "it's all about the dash".

What dash?

This one:
BBBB-DDDD

BBBB represents your year of birth.
DDDD represents your year of death.

The dash represents everything in between.

Your life.

It really doesn't matter when you're born.

And it really doesn't matter when you die.

What matters?

The dash.

Your days.

The days of your life.  Whether there are 5,000 of them or 30,000+ of them.

What did you do with your days?

Along those same lines, have you ever been challenged to mock-up your own obituary?

Prepare a write-up of what you accomplished in your days?

What you did with your dash?

I've taken that challenge and done some working on mine.  Believe me, even as nothing more than a "personal reflection" and/or "life examination" type of thing, it's a humbling effort.

These are the main categories;  the "Biographical Sketch" section is the most challenging, especially the underlined portion:

Name
Age
Residence
Day/Time/Location of Death

Day/Location of Birth
Parents/Siblings
Schooling
Occupation

Spouse & Wedding Date
Children/Grandkids

Biographical Sketch:
Personality/Character Traits
Purpose in Life
Impacts to Humanity/Society
Hobbies/Interests
Memberships & Volunteer Involvement
Accomplishments

Survivors
Pre-decedents

Service Times
Memorials

Give it some thought.

Whether you're 20 or 80, are you happy with what your dash represents?

If not, make a change to make a difference.

Out for now........

Matt
