Places From My Past 6

Continuing my series..... PLACES FROM MY PAST.

As mentioned before here on MattChat, Paris IL was our family's #1 go-to as I was growing up.

Groceries (Kroger, Bridwell's)

Shopping (K-Mart, Pool's, Rural King)

Business (Don Ruff, ASCS, Country Companies)

Medical (Dr. Sunkel, Dr. Phipps)

I've posted before about a couple of Paris spots:

Here are some other Paris locations I recall:

remember being at the counter with Dad as he was conducting business

the beautiful Edgar County Courthouse;  again, I remember being with Dad as he was conducting business

ate here with Dad and Uncle Ike at least a couple times

countless $1-$2 movies on these screens (originally only 1 screen);  one of my fondest memories:  seeing Evita with Dad and Mom

the American Legion out north by Rural King (across from the fairgrounds);  played church softball league on the fields behind this meeting hall

countless visits to the Farm Bureau, as both Dad and Mom were heavily involved;  I remember hanging out in the basement as meetings were taking place elsewhere

on the square, Index/Moeller/Cricket:  one of the coolest "general merchandise" stores around;  they had fish aquariums at the back of the store, as well as their toyland that you had to step-down a level to get to;  loved looking at the Christmas merchandise during the holiday season

There are more (hospital, Childrens Home, Uncle Ike's multiple apartments) but I'll stop there.

Out for now.......

Matt
