New Types of Tourism

Over the last couple months, I've been taking note of a few new usages of the word "tourism" that I've spotted in various news articles.

Here are 6 examples:

DARK TOURISM
tourism directed to places that are identified with death and suffering

MARIJUANA TOURISM
tourism directed to places where recreational sale/usage of marijuana is permitted

DISASTER TOURISM
the practice of visiting locations at which an environmental disaster, either natural or man-made, has occurred

MEDICAL TOURISM
the process of traveling outside the country of residence for the purpose of receiving medical care

SLEEP TOURISM
an ever-growing industry and caters to individuals looking to escape the stress and strain of everyday life and secure a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed in a relaxing environment

BIRTH TOURISM
the practice of traveling to another country for the purpose of giving birth in that country. The main reason for birth tourism is to obtain citizenship for the child in a country with birthright citizenship (jus soli)

Maybe these are old terms (except for the marijuana one)??

I have strained my brain and do not recall ever taking part in any of these tourism activities.  Especially the ones focused on pot and babies.

Grace & Peace & Love to you all -
